Confronting superstition
A film based on the story of one Thekanidevi, who was burnt alive in her native Chitwan two years ago by some locals who accused her of witchcraft, has gone on the floor from today.The film will be produced by KR Films and Entertainment Pvt Ltd, and its inaugural ceremony was held at Bhadrakali Temple in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
At the ceremony, BB Phuyal, the director of the film, said that the film would try to take a critical stance regarding witchcraft.
The chief guest of the event, Chairperson of Nepal Film Journalists Association, Shanti Priya, hoped that Raktabhog would be able to throw light on the issues of witchcraft and superstitious beliefs and wished all the best for the film’s success.
Speaking at the same ceremony, the executive producer of the film, Krishnaraj Tiwari, said that the movie was an attempt “to bring some positive changes in Nepali society by addressing superstitious issues like witchcraft.’’
Pawan Gautam is the cinematographer of the film while the acting crew includes Sarika Ghimire, Sailesh Poudel, Jyoti Sapkota and Rachana Poudel, among others. Ramchandra Lamsal, one of the producers of the film, has written the story.
