The exclusive screening of ‘The Challengers-Game of Himalayas’ was held on Saturday at the QFX Cinemas in Labim Mall. The Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, was the chief guest.
Directed and produced by Shree Gurung, this series is the first reality show about Mount Everest and the first international TV Series from Nepal. Nikhil Chinapa, India's TV and media personality, will host the show.
This unscripted reality show on Prime Video features 11 notable vloggers from the USA, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Colombia, and Nepal, trekking to Everest's base camp to witness the splendid Himalayan glaciers. Along their journey, they are trained and tested by experienced mountaineers.
The chief guest, Oli, congratulated the entire team and expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who started the reality show. “Our country crowned with the majestic Himalayas needs to be highlighted, and shows like this contribute to putting our mountains on the world map,” says Oli.
The expedition leader is Mingma David Sherpa, a Nepali mountaineer and rescue climber who holds the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Time to Climb Everest and K2. He trains the vloggers to be mountaineers.
The contestants compete physically and mentally. The finalists will race to the summit of Kalapatthar, contending for the title of The Ultimate Challenger and a grand prize of $100,000.
Producer and director Gurung shares, “During the production phase of this reality show, there were times when we wanted to give up because it was extremely tough, expensive and unpredictable.”
“Many Nepali teams have tried to present Nepal's authentic side on the international stage. Previously, it was primarily foreigners who showcased Nepal,” adds Gurung. The organisers also said that through this reality show, national and international audiences will be able to witness the raw side of mountains, the vloggers’ journey to the base camp and the games they play along the way.
