In a celebration of national pride, a music video of ‘Mutu Bhitra Nepal’, written by Prakash Pandit, performed by Thaneshwor Gautam and featuring actor Rajesh Hamal, was released last week. The video is directed by Subrat Acharya.
Gautam’s voice, coupled with the presence of Hamal, adds a compelling dimension to the video. According to the producers, the song aims to instil a deep love for the country within the hearts of the audience through lyrics and melody.
“The character in the video is an artist who carries great love for his nation, and this love is reflected in his paintings,” says Pandit. However, he adds that the ongoing issues within the country, such as corruption, rape, a weak economy, unemployment, poverty, and illiteracy, have cast a shadow of sadness. This sentiment is shared by many Nepalis today.
He further explains that Hamal’s character portrays how Nepalis are worried about the country because of these issues. Despite these concerns, the song holds a glimmer of hope. Pandit says that as the character turns optimistic and passionately paints a flag towards the end, it signals the possibility of brighter days ahead.
Director Acharya brings the lyrics to life with evocative visuals and a narrative that resonates with ‘the Nepali spirit’.
The music video is available on YouTube.
