Stage set for UML general convention
Replica of Changunarayan temple and cutout of Oli set up Saturday’s opening session.
Post Report
The CPN-UML has intensified preparations for its general convention, which begins on Saturday.
A stage has been built at Sallaghari in Bhaktapur for the inaugural session. Other activities of the jamboree will take place at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu.
The setup includes replicas of the Changunarayan Temple and a cutout of party chair KP Sharma Oli. A structure of the image featuring numeric 1 attached with a Dharahara replica in reference to the eleventh general convention has also been installed.
Oli has consistently portrayed the post-quake reconstruction of the tower as an achievement of his government and a matter of national pride.
A total of 2,262 delegates are expected to elect a new leadership. Oli and Senior Vice-chair Ishwar Pokharel are set to compete for the post of chairman. The convention will also elect other office bearers and central committee members.
Here are some photos of preparations taken by the Post’s photojournalist Dipen Shrestha.
