RSP’s first general convention kicks off in Chitwan
Over 4,200 delegates assemble in Bharatpur to elect the party's new leadership.

The first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has commenced at the Guesthouse Ground in Bharatpur, Chitwan. Party chairman Rabi Lamichhane and Prime Minister and senior leader Balendra Shah jointly inaugurated the convention by ringing a bell.
A cross-section of top political leaders, including Nepali Congress president Gagan Kumar Thapa, former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai, CPN-UML leader Pradeep Gyawali, Nepali Communist Party leader Barshaman Pun, Rastriya Prajatantra Party chairman Rajendra Lingden, and Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal chairman Upendra Yadav, attended the inaugural session. The Shram Sanskriti Party, led by Harka Raj Rai, was notably absent.
Around 4,211 delegates from across the country have converged on Chitwan to elect the party’s new leadership. The convention is set to choose a 158-member Central Committee—inclusive of seven provincial committee chairs as ex-officio members—and 19 office-bearers, including the party president.
