Nepal is observing Constitution Day on Wednesday.
President Ramchandra Paudel, acting Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha, ministers and other dignitaries attended a special programme organised at Tundikhel to observe the Constitution Day.
This year the celebrations have been extended to three days—September 19, 20 and 21.
September 20 is celebrated as the Constitution Day as the Constitution of Nepal was promulgated through the Constituent Assembly on September 20, 2015.
The constitution, however, has been contested by some sections of the society, and calls have grown for amendments to ensure its wider acceptance.
As a part of the function, personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force carried out a march-past while others from various organisations displayed a cultural parade.
