The people’s representatives in Doti have expressed their dissatisfaction over the preparation of Visit Nepal 2020. They complain that the federal and provincial governments have not coordinated with the local units, despite the government-launched programmes inching closer.
“We are preparing to hold discussions, interactions and publicity campaigns by ourselves. The federal and provincial governments have neither talked to us nor informed us about preparations for Visit Nepal 2020,” said Dirgha Bogati, chairman of Purbichauki Rural Municipality in Doti.
Khaptad is one of the major tourist destinations in Sudurpaschim Province. The provincial government has also decided to make Khaptad area as the main tourist destination for Visit Nepal 2020. However, the government authorities are yet to coordinate with Purbichauki, Sayal and Aadarsha rural municipalities and Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality that lie in the Khaptad area.
“There is no coordination among the three tiers of government. The local units are working in their own way while the provincial government is doing its own thing. This level of incoordination does not only increase the government expenses, it also affects promotional activities,” said Dipak Khadka, the general secretary of Doti Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
When asked, Bharat Shrestha, the spokesperson of the provincial Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment, said the ministry would soon coordinate with the local units. “The provincial government has recently formed a tourism promotion committee. We will soon coordinate with the local units regarding Visit Nepal 2020,” he added.
