India lifted the SAFF U19 Women’s Championship title after defeating defending champions Bangladesh 4–0 in the final at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday.
India, who took a one-goal lead in the first half, dominated the match after the break by adding three more goals to seal a comprehensive victory and claim their third title in the age-group category.
Bangladesh had entered the final in strong form, finishing top of the points table with nine points after emphatic wins over Bhutan, India and Nepal in the league stage. They had beaten Bhutan 12–0, India 2–0 and Nepal 4–0.
India reached the final by finishing second in the standings with six points, following victories over Nepal and Bhutan. They defeated Nepal 1–0 and thrashed Bhutan 8–0 to book their place in the title match.
Despite Bangladesh’s earlier dominance in the tournament, India produced a commanding performance in the final to secure the championship.
Bangladesh have previously won the women’s age-group title three times. Nepal, who had reached the final twice in earlier editions, were eliminated in the league stage this time.
