Bangladesh registered a comfortable 2–0 victory over India in the SAFF U19 Women’s Championship match played at Pokhara Stadium on Monday.
Captain Arpita Biswas and Alpi Akter were on target for Bangladesh, who dominated proceedings from the outset and secured the win with two first-half goals.
Bangladesh took the lead in the 29th minute when Arpita Biswas found the back of the net following sustained pressure. The visitors doubled their advantage in the 40th minute through Alpi Akter, leaving India trailing 2–0 at half-time.
Both teams created a few chances after the break, but neither side managed to add to the scoreline. Bangladesh’s goalkeeper and defensive line remained solid to preserve the clean sheet.
India made an early substitution in the second half, bringing on Anushka Kumari for Pritika Barman in the 46th minute, while Bangladesh had already made a double change in the 37th minute. However, the changes failed to alter the outcome.
Bangladesh head coach Peter James Butler fielded a well-balanced side, while India’s coach Pamela Conti made several second-half substitutions in search of a comeback that never materialised. Julun Nongmaithem captained the Indian side.
With this win, Bangladesh have accumulated six points from their group-stage matches. The defending champions had earlier thrashed Bhutan 12–0 on Saturday. India, meanwhile, remain on three points after their 1–0 win over Nepal earlier in the tournament.
