Nepal set a target of 152 runs for Oman in their Super 6 clash of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia–East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier in Muscat on Wednesday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal posted 151 runs for nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs—marking their first 150-plus total in the ongoing tournament.
Openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh provided a solid start, adding 61 runs within eight overs before Sheikh was bowled by Nadeem Khan for 24 runs off 20 balls, which included two fours and a six.
Nadeem then dismantled Nepal’s top order, bowling out skipper Rohit Paudel for one, Dipendra Singh Airee for two, and Kushal Malla for seven. Despite his dismissal, Malla reached a personal milestone, completing 1,000 runs in T20 Internationals.
Bhurtel anchored the innings with a fluent 69 runs off 51 deliveries, hitting seven fours and a six before being trapped leg-before in the 18th over. Adil Alam Ansari struck three sixes to make 16 runs from 15 balls, while Gulshan Jha added late momentum with 18 runs off 10 balls, including two consecutive sixes in the 19th over. Nandan Yadav contributed nine runs off four deliveries, and Sompal Kami remained unbeaten on one.
For Oman, left-arm spinner Nadeem Khan starred with 4 wickets for just 20 runs in his four overs. Sufyan Mehmood and Jiten Ramanandi took two wickets each, conceding 29 and 26 runs respectively.
Both Nepal and Oman had already secured their places at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, before the match, after earlier results went in their favour. In Wednesday’s earlier fixtures, Qatar beat Japan by three wickets, and the UAE defeated Samoa by 77 runs, ensuring both teams’ qualification.
The winner of this match will move a step closer to clinching the Asia–EAP Qualifier title, strengthening their position ahead of the final Super 6 fixtures.
