Nepal rise to an all-time high in FIFA Women’s Rankings
National women’s team climbs to 87th position globally, their best-ever placement since the rankings began.
Post Report
Nepal have achieved their highest-ever position in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, climbing to 87th globally in the latest list published by the world football governing body on Thursday.
This marks a significant milestone for the national women’s team, who had previously reached their best ranking of 91 back in December 2017. The most recent improvement comes after Nepal were ranked in the triple digits—over 100—in the last update released on June 12 this year.
Among Asian nations, Nepal now sit in 16th place, trailing only India in South Asia. India are ranked 63rd globally and 12th within Asia, while Bangladesh remain at 104th globally and 19th among Asian countries.
Nepal’s latest ascent comes despite their recent exit from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, where they failed to progress after a penalty shootout defeat against hosts Uzbekistan.
Nonetheless, the new ranking reflects the team’s growing consistency and potential in regional football and is likely to serve as a morale boost ahead of future international competitions.
