The Nepal Golf Association (NGA) has announced the 11th edition of the Nepal Amateur Open Golf Championship, the country’s flagship amateur golf tournament, from June 3 to 5, at the par-72 Gokarna Forest Resort Golf Course.
The 54-hole stroke play competition will take place over three days, featuring top amateur golfers not only from Nepal but across South Asia. “There will be participants from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka as well,” said NGA General Secretary Deepak Acharya at a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday.
The championship includes both individual and team formats in men’s section.
Similarly, a separate women’s championship will run simultaneously, where leading female amateurs from Nepal and India will compete. This parallel event aims to strengthen women’s participation in golf and provide a vital platform for emerging talent at the international level.
As of now, 45 male and 10 female golfers have confirmed their participation, with local registration open until June 1. Approximately 35 players from Nepal are expected to join the competition.
A cut will be applied in the men’s division after the first 36 holes, with the top 60 percent of the field qualifying for the final round. “Koshi and Gandaki provinces have sent six players each, while Bagmati will have a bigger squad,” said Acharya.
The team competition, featuring two-player teams from each participating country, will be decided based on combined scores over the first two rounds (June 3-4). Nepal will field two teams in the men’s event, reflecting the host nation’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. Nepal No 1 amateur golfer Sadbhav Acharya will team up with fellow national team golfer Rahul Biswakarma in Nepal ‘A’ team.
Both the men’s and women’s competitions are sanctioned by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), reinforcing the tournament's standing on the global amateur golf calendar.
