Tamang wins Surya Nepal Western Open

Niraj Tamang won the Surya Nepal Western Open, the fourth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25, at the par-69 Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara on Friday.
Tamang shot 4-over 73 in the third and final round to post the winning total of 1-under 206 and claimed his third career title.
He finished three strokes ahead of Jayram Shrestha to win the second straight title of the season and earned Rs150,000.
Shrestha carded an even-par 69 for a total score of 2-over 209 and moved five places up to second position. He received Rs100,000.
Bhuwan Kumar Rokka finished third at 3-over 210 after playing 7-over 76. He earned Rs75,000.
Defending champion Bhuwan Nagarkoti came fourth at 4-over 211 after he carded 2-under 67 in the final round. Nagarkoti received Rs 63,000.
Four pros, Sanjay Lama, Dhana Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Prasad Sharma and Rame Magar shared the fifth position at 7-over 214. Lama and Thapa played 7-over 76 each, whereas Sharma and Magar played 3-over 72 each. They received Rs44,750 each.
Krishna Man Rajbahak and Toran Bikram Shahi were tied for ninth place at 10-over 217 and they earned Rs33,500 each. Rajbahak shot 6-over 75 and Shahi played 4-over 73 in the third round.
Tamang, who began the final day with a one stroke lead over Rokka, played 3-over 37 on the front nine after he dropped shots on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes. He carded 1-over 36 on the back nine. Tamang carded first birdie on the 10th hole and he faced bogeys on the 11th and 18th holes.
Shrestha took the turn at 2-over 36 before carding 2-under 33 on the back nine. He began the day with a triple bogey and dropped a shot on the third before carding birdies on the sixth and ninth holes. After taking the turn, Shrestha carded four birdies on the 10th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes and faced a bogey on the 18th hole.
Nagarkoti and Lama, who played in the final group with Tamang, faltered to 7-over 76 each and dropped down in the leaderboard.
In the amateur section, Suresh Tamang won the title with a total score of 9-over 216. Tamang carded an even-par 69 in the final round and defeated Suman Pariyar by two strokes.
Pariyar finished second on count back after he was tied on 11-over 218 with overnight leader Sundar Rai. Pariyar carded 3-over 72 in the final round, while Rai played 9-over 78.
A total of 52 golfers—34 pros and 18 amateurs—took part in the 54-hole tournament organised by PGA Nepal under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.
The 25th edition of the tournament will end with a Pro-Am event on Saturday.
