Former national cricket team captain Paras Khadka has been elected president of Bagmati Province Cricket Association of Nepal.
Khadka defeated his competitor Umesh Piya by nine votes in an election held on Friday. The former skipper received 23 votes against Piya who garnered 14 votes.
The majority of district chapters of Bagmati Province had publicly announced their support for Khadka for the post of provincial president of the cricket governing body.
Among the six district chapters of Bagmati, newly elected presidents of four district associations– Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Makawanpur and Lalitpur— at a joint press conference had announced their support for Khadka’s candidacy. Nuwakot and Chitwan chapters however didn’t back Khadka.
The second general convention of the association that concluded on Friday elected a 13-member executive committee led by Khadka.
