Bhupendra, Sanil into national boxing semis

The gold medallists of 13th South Asian Games Bhupendra Thapa Magar and Sanil Sahi have advanced to the semi-finals of the Ganesh Man Singh Memorial National Boxing Championships on Wednesday.
Nepal Police Club’s Bhupenra defeated Madhes Province’s Rawan Ali in men’s 63 kg and Sanil, also from Police department, saw off Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Bikram Chaudhary in men’s 69 kg at Basantapur Dabali to reach the last four.
APF Sonam Karki also reached the 63 kg semi-finals beating Gandaki Province’s Nischal Gurung. Another semi-finalist in the 69 kg division was Bharat Chand of Sudurpaschim. He conquered Prashant Lama of Karnali Province.
In men’s 52 kg, Tribhuvan Army Club’s Prem Chaudhary saw off Gandaki’s Aakash Rana and Police’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa bested Dharmendra Rai of Province 1 to secure their last four berths.
In 57 kg, Police’s Shambhu Rajbanshi beat Province 1’s Bhugol Limbu and Army’s Indra Sunar overpowered Karnali’s Paras Shahi to reach the semis.
Likewise, Army’s Dipesh Lama and Madhes’ Koshis Shrestha qualified for the 75kg semis, beating Bagmati’s Nischal Bista and APF’s Jhalak Rokka.
In 81 kg, Army’s Dipak Shrestha got the better of APF’s Sajan Tamang to reach the semis.
Also, in men’s 91 kg, APF’s Rabin Nepal saw off Madhes’ Bijay Rajbhandari to advance into the semis. Gandaki’s Kiran BK got a walkover from Lumbini Province’s Keshar Khatri in the other quarter-finals of the 91 kg section.
Chandrakala, Nangja advance
In the women's section, Army’s Chandrakala Thapa and APF’s Nangja Budha Magar advanced to the semis.
Chandrakala defeated Swastika Tiruwa and Nangja saw off Janaki Thapa Magar of Lumbini in women’s 57 kg weight category.
In women’s 51kg section, APF’s Sanju Maya Thing overcame Aarati BK of Karnali to join Police’s Diwana Sherma who downed Asmita Thapa of Gandaki in the semis.
In women’s 60 kg weight category, Bagmati Province’s Sasikala Rai beat Gandaki’s Jessica Shrestha and Army’s Sangita Dangol beat Karnali’s Manisha Magar to reach the last four.
