The Sports Committee of Ganesh Man Singh Foundation is set to organise Bir Ganesh Man Singh Memorial National Boxing Championship from March 31 to April 4 in Kathmandu.

The event will feature six weight categories in women's section and eight categories in the men's section, said Sanjeev Tuladhar, the Sports Committee coordinator of the foundation at a press conference here on Sunday.

The women pugilists will vie in 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg and 64kg divisions, while the male players will vie in 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg and 81kg divisions.

According to Rajiv Shrestha, the coordinator of boxing, players from ten teams, including one each from seven provinces and three departmental teams — Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal APF Club — will vie in each of the weight categories.

"The players of provincial teams will come through a district and provincial selection process to vie in the finals," said Shrestha, adding that either the district committee of Nepal Boxing Association or the District Sports Development Committee will coordinate in the selection process.

The winners of each weight category will get Rs25,000, runners up Rs15,000 and the second runner up will bag a Rs7,000 cash prize. The best male and female players will be rewarded with two-wheelers.

The event is being organised under the technical support of Nepal Boxing Association and will be held under the aegis of the National Sports Council. The expected cost of the event is around Rs8 million.
