Dauphins Family of Cameroon clinched the fifth Mai Valley Gold Cup football tournament title with a 2-0 win over Himalayan Sherpa Club in the final on Tuesday.
Yannick Owana put Dauphins ahead early in the eight minute before Mesuke added the second in the 20th minute. It was the fourth knockout tournament title that Dauphins have won in Nepal this season. Apart from Mai Valley Gold Cup, Dauphins have already clinched the Tilottama Gold Cup in Butwal, Pokhara Cup and Budha Subba Gold Cup in Dharan.
Dauphins received Rs 700,000 and Himalayan Sherpa got Rs 400,000. Kishore Giri of Himalayan Sherpa was adjudged the best player of the tournament and was awarded with a motorcycle. Dauphins’ Oko was declared the best defender and his teammate Petanga the best forward. Tridev Gurung of Himalayan Sherpa was named the best midfieder and Dauphins’ Bamba the best coach. All the individual award winners received Rs 25,000 each.
Dauphins had made it to the final after defeating departmental outfits Nepal Police Club and Himalayan Sherpa got the better of Jhapa XI to set up the title clash.
