Kathmandu
Nepali football fans in the city vociferously cheered hosts Russia while watching the live broadcast of the first match of Fifa World Cup 2018 in restaurants, bars, homes and offices.
Excited young men and women jumped, clapped and celebrated all five goals after Yury Gazinsky scored the first in the 12th minute followed by Denis Cheryshev’s second before half time.
Thamel, Thapathali, and Jhamshikhel localities remained deserted with fans watching the opening ceremony and 90 minutes of one-sided action in their homes, bars and offices.
