NGA, CAN out to support victims
Nepal Golf Association (NGA) on Friday distributed relief materials to earthquake victims at a village in Kavre.The NGA distributed 1,000 tents and as many blankets in Dhungkharka. The NGA raised funds through well-wishers like Aaron Bergman, an operator of Golf In Schools in Texas, Ghale brothers and a bit from the association itself. Bergman donated $4,000 while Ghale bothers including the NGA General Secretary Tashi Ghale chipped in Rs 7,50,000.
The golf team led by Ghale and professional golfers Shivaram Shrestha, Deepak Thapa Magar and NGA treasurer Kisan Agrawal handed over 252 tents while also distributing a total of 2,00 blankets in Dhungkharka.
Ghale said his association is planning to distribute more tents and blankets in the most affected areas like Gorkha, Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Lalitpur. Over 7,500 people have died from the devastating earthquake that rocked Nepal on April 25.
The NGA General Secretary also urged golfers and caddies to report their status after the earthquake. “We can ask for assistance from the Royal and Ancient—the governing body of golf—if any of the golfers or caddies are affected by the earthquake,” said Ghale.
Ghale also said efforts will be made to seek more tents from Korean Golf Association and Chinese Golf Association as well. “We believe tent is what the earthquake victims require immediately at the moment and that is why we are pressing for distributing it more than anything else,” added Ghale. Ghale also informed that NGA will provide Rs 25,000 to the family of late Suman Bomjan, who lost his life in the earthquake. Bomjan was a sports journalist at the national daily Gorkhapatra.
Meanwhile, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) also distributed relief materials in Sindhuli on Thursday. CAN Chief Executive Officers Bhawana Ghimire, national team cricketers including skipper Paras Khadka and vice-captain Gyanendra Malla travelled to Bhasheshwor VDC in Sindhuli and distributed the relief materials.
