APF lift Budha Subba Gold Cup
Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club defeated three-time champions Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) 1-0 to lift 17th Budha Subba Gold Cup Football TournamentPradeep Menyangbo
Rajendra Rawal scored the solitary goal for the departmental team, who won their maiden title of one of the prestigious tournaments held outside Kathmandu valley. Winners APF were rewarded with a cash purse of Rs 350,000 and runners-up MMC received Rs 175,000.
In an evenly-contested final, both the teams created enough scoring chances but it was Rawal’s goal that separated the two sides. MMC were hit hard by the services of key players who are in the national duty. After the first half ended on a goalless stalemate, Rawal provided APF the lead in the 67th minute. Santosh Shrestha controlled a corner from Ranjan Bista before dodging the ball past MMC defenders to feed Rawal, who headed home the winner.
MMC, who were looking to end their trophy drought and also avenge the 2-1 loss inflicted by APF in Simara Gold Cup pre-quarterfinals three months ago, missed several scoring chances.
APF custodian Amrit Chaudhary won the title for his side denying shots from Leonel Stephen Mbile, Zikahi Dodoz, Shiva Shrestha, Nirajan Malla and Rupesh KC. APF on the other saw their top players Ganesh Lawati, Santosh Shrestha and Bista faileing to double the tally.
Lawati, the player of the series, walked away with a motorcycle worth Rs 180,000. Hemant Thapa of Dharan Football Club (emerging player), Dodoz (striker) and Sulav Maskey (midfielder) of MMC, Rawal (defender), Chaudhary (goalkeeper) and Krishna Thapa (coach) of APF were other individual winners of the tournament and took home Rs 10,000 each.
Similarly, Amrit Basnet of Tribhuvan Army won the highest scorer award along with a purse of Rs 21,000.
