Tez rout Warriors as Gurkhas lose
Panchakanya Tez won their second consecutive match of the Ncell Nepal Premier League (NPL) with a crushing 133-run victory over Paras Khadka-led Vishal Warriors on Saturday.In another match at the Kanchanpur grounds, Kantipur Gurkhas lost to Sagarmatha Legends by five wickets. Tez and Legends have four points each with the latter leading the table on net run run rate and with one match in hand. Gurkhas and Jagdamba Giants have two points each from two games.
Warriors were into their third match with only one victory in their hands and on Saturday they were left clueless at Fapla grounds, bundled out for just 75 runs in 22 overs in chase of Tez’s 208 all out from 50 overs.
Man-of-the-match Dipendra Airee picked up four wickets to demolish Warriors including the scalp of Khadka, who made 9. Binod Das also returned with 3-17 for Tez, while Raj Kumar Pradhan had two victims. Manjeet Shrestha (12) was the only Warriors batsman to return with double figures before Karan KC dismissed him.
Earlier, Tez were reduced to 4-56 in 25 overs after before Puspa Thapa and skipper Sharad Vesawkar (20) rescued the team from a possible collapse with a 47-run. Thapa top scored in the match with 35 off 62 with five fours and a six. With the dismissal of Thapa, Tez lost next four wickets for just 56 runs tottering at 159-8.
Bhuwan Karki and Karan KC (20 not out) pushed the team towards a respectable total with a 31-run stand. Karki made 29 off 54 with four hits to the fence. Ramnaresh Giri, Deepesh Khatri and Sushan Bhari Shrestha picked up two wickets each for the Warriors.
In a 40-over-a-side game, Gurkhas needed a half-century from Surendra Chand to make 179 all out in 38.5 overs. Legends reached 183-5 in 33.4 overs with all rounder Mehboob Alam sailing the team home. Mehboob made 31 off 42 hitting five boundaries.
Skipper Binod Bhandari, who had scored a magnificent 98 in Legends’ 103-run victory over Warriors, top scored once again with 35 off 34 hitting five fours and a six. Sunil Dhamala (28) and Paresh Lohani (27) also chipped in some invaluable runs from the top order.
Aakash Bista took 3-42 for Gurkhas, while Santosh Baral and skipper Basanta Regmi snapped one each. Earlier, Surendra lifted Gurkhas making 57 off 80 with five hits to the fence. Aakash Gupta made some quick runs hitting four boundaries and two sixes in his 20-ball 32. Chandra Sawad was the pick of the Legends bowlers with 3-44 and Mehboob took 2-21 form seven overs. Mehboob was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his all round display.
