Heavy snowfall in Khumbu
Snowfall begins in upper Khumbu from Monday evening, disrupting tourism.Bhanubhakta Niraula
Heavy snowfall has hit upper Khumbu in Solukhumbu district, home to Mount Everest. It began Monday evening as clouds rolled in and intensified Tuesday morning above Thyangboche in Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.
The snowfall has disrupted tourism, leaving domestic and international visitors in hotels. Meanwhile, Namche Bazar has experienced continuous rain since Monday.
Lama Kazi Sherpa, chairman of the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, said snowfall has been witnessed in Thyangboche, Lobuche, and Sagarmatha Base Camp. About 900 foreign tourists are currently in the region, many of whom have been affected.
Local resident Pasang Sherpa said the snowfall has affected tourism, local residents, and livestock. Meteorologist David Dhakal said snow is expected today, followed by two days of clear weather, with another chance of snowfall in three days.
