Police raided the residence of Yasmin Sultan, former deputy mayor of Khadak Municipality, Saptari and recovered goods worth millions of rupees on suspicion of customs evasion.
A joint team of Armed Police Force and customs officials raided Sultan’s warehouse at her home in Khadak-7 on Tuesday. The team confiscated ready-made garments worth Rs1.93 million, according to Vijay Kumar Sah, an official at the Rajbiraj Customs Office. Sultan had served as the deputy mayor in the previous term.
Sah stated that acting on a tip-off, they discovered 38 sacks of ready-made garments stored in Sultan’s warehouse. Since the owner failed to produce relevant invoices, the goods were seized for further investigation. The confiscated items have been sent to the Rajbiraj Customs Office in Tilathi for inquiry.
During the raid, Sultan was present at her residence. However, the locals alleged that efforts were underway to exempt her from legal action despite the significant seizure.
While the police stated that the investigation was ongoing, customs official Sah assured that action would be taken against Sultan if deemed necessary.
