An incident of kidnapping that occurred in Saptari district two weeks ago has been made public only on Sunday.

According to police, unidentified persons had kidnapped a woman and a man from a public vehicle on August 14 and released them only after a ransom was paid.

Police said the duo who had arrived in Rajbiraj from Dharan were abducted while they were returning on a microbus.

Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar Karki, who is also chief of Saptari district police, said unidentified men suddenly asked them to get off the microbus at Rupani Rural Municipality-5 and took them away.

Karki said the kidnappers took Rs 97,000 from the duo and received Rs100,000 ransom through an online transfer from the woman’s husband in Dharan.

The abductors then ran away, police said.

Police arrested Ajay Kumar Das of Rajbiraj Municipality-1 on August 22 on the charge of his alleged involvement in the case.
