Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has quit the organisation and announced the formation of a new political outfit.
In a statement released on social media on Saturday, Chaudhary said the new party will be called the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal.
“There is no reason to keep fighting or causing uproar. Some joined the party in the name of Tharuhat for personal gain. I will no longer be entangled,” he said.
Chaudhary also announced he is ready to hand over all his property to the state. “I cannot live without a party or politics. I want to join hands with independents and build a new organisation and party from today,” he said.
He added that cooperation is not possible with those who resigned from Parliament and later returned, stressing that the Gen Z movement has not ended.
He has quit the party after a prolonged dispute and division within the Nagarik Unmukti Party, which was formed in 2022. While he led a faction, his wife Ranjita Shrestha led another faction of the party. The party won four seats in the federal parliament in the last general elections held in 2023.
