RSP takes dominant lead in early proportional vote count
National tally shows RSP ahead with 57 percent of votes; Congress and UML follow.Post Report
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) maintained a commanding lead in Nepal’s proportional representation vote count on Saturday, securing 35,091 votes, or 57.2 percent of the 61,399 ballots counted so far.
The party has already won 25 seats in the first-past-the-post contest and is leading in 93 other constituencies, signalling a major shift away from traditional powerhouses.
The Nepali Congress is in second place with 10,527 votes, representing about 17 percent of the early tally. The CPN-UML follows in third with 5,191 votes. The pro-monarchy Rastriya Prajatantra Party has 4,525 votes, while the Nepali Communist Party and Shram Sanskriti Party hold 1,911 and 1,401 votes, respectively. Smaller parties, including the Rastriya Pariwartan Party and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party, each hold less than two percent of the early count.
The 2026 general elections are the first since a youth-led uprising in late 2025 led to the formation of an interim government. Final results for proportional seats, which are allocated based on a party's total national vote share, are expected in days once all ballots are consolidated.
