Dan Bahadur Karki appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police
Cabinet promotes AIG Karki to succeed Chandra Kuber Khapung.Post Report
The government has appointed Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dan Bahadur Karki as the new Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP).
Monday’s Cabinet meeting decided to promote Karki to the top post of the security force, according to a minister present at the meeting. Karki will assume office as the 33rd IGP of Nepal Police from November 13.
Karki joined the Nepal Police as an inspector on March 31, 1998, and will serve until March 2026, under the 30-year service provision. He is currently the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, a position he has held since September 9.
Karki was promoted to AIG on April 28 this year and rose to the top position just six months later. Among the AIGs considered for promotion were Rajan Adhikari, Manoj KC, and Siddhi Bikram Shah. Karki, Adhikari, and KC all entered the police service on the same date in 1998, while Shah was transferred from the National Investigation Department.
Outgoing IGP Khapung, who took charge on August 29, is retiring after completing his tenure as the 32nd police chief of Nepal Police on November 13.
