Youth leaders highlight need for investment in climate governance
National workshop calls for stronger youth participation in local climate decision-making

Youth leaders and stakeholders have called for greater investment in youth-focused, climate-friendly governance during a national workshop held on June 27 in Kathmandu.
Organised by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (Jcycn) with the British Council Nepal, the event brought together youth, civil society, and government representatives to discuss youth engagement in climate action.
Participants from Madhyabindu and Sunwal municipalities shared experiences of local environmental efforts and disaster challenges.
Sudip Thakuri from Tribhuvan University highlighted youth leadership in climate resilience, while speakers from UNDP and NTNC emphasised mentorship and inclusion in national commitments.
Surya Dhakal, from the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, announced plans for climate education in schools and disaster alerts.
Jcycn president Tilottam Paudel stressed the need for long-term collaboration.
The event concluded with a shared call for sustained support to youth beyond project cycles. Sixty youths and 28 organisations participated.
