Post Report
Kathmandu University (KU), in collaboration with the Southasia Institute for History and Philosophy (SiHP), has announced a new Master of Arts in History and Philosophy (MAHP) programme.
The two-year postgraduate course is open to applicants from Nepal and abroad, with admissions available for intakes in October 2025 and April 2026.
Speaking at the launch event held on June 19, KU vice chancellor Achyut Wagle said the programme was designed to address contemporary challenges and offer students a rigorous academic experience in historical and philosophical inquiry.
Academic director of SiHP, historian Yogesh Raj, said the programme aims to re-centre the humanities by integrating critical perspectives beyond dominant anthropocentric approaches. The course structure is intended to support research, policy, and advocacy related to the region’s history and philosophical traditions.
"The 60-credit curriculum includes core and advanced courses in History and Philosophy, with elective options in Society, Technology, and Environment. It is designed to prepare students for academic careers as well as work in fields such as policy analysis, diplomacy, media, public service, and social activism," KU said in a press release issued on Monday.
