Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal held talks with Indian leaders in New Delhi on Monday.
Dahal, who travelled to India to attend his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, called on Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the President’s Office.
During the meeting, topics of bilateral interest, the centuries-old Nepal-India relations, and strengthening people-to-people relations were discussed, the prime minister’s secretariat said.
Earlier today, Dahal met with the newly appointed Indian Union Minister S Jaishankar and discussed bilateral relations, assistance, and the implementation of the agreements reached between the South Asian neighbours.
Prime Minister Dahal extended his congratulations to Jaishankar on his appointment as a minister, adding that he believed that the bilateral ties and people-to-people relations between Nepal and India would grow stronger.
Expressing his gratitude for Dahal’s attendance during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in on Sunday, Minister Jaishankar said that the Indian government was making significant efforts to expedite the agreements made in the past and that satisfactory progress had been made towards the same.
The prime minister’s daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other officials from the Nepali embassy in India were present during the meeting.
Likewise, Dahal had also met with Indian Prime Minister Modi following the latter’s oath-taking ceremony as Indian premier for a third consecutive term on Sunday evening.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with visiting leaders including Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal after the swearing-in ceremony,” the Embassy of India in Kathmandu said. “He [Modi] thanked them for gracing the occasion and reaffirmed India’s commitment to its ‘neighbourhoom first’ policy.”
During the meeting, Prime Minister Dahal expressed hope that Nepal-India relations would reach new heights during Modi’s historic third-term. They also discussed implementation of various agreements signed between the two nations.
Dahal is rescheduled to return home later today.
