The District Court Palpa has registered 122 divorce cases in the first six months of the current fiscal year. Among those seeking divorce were 87 women and 35 men.
Even though the data puts the number of women seeking divorce at a high rate, it also shows that more men have been filing for divorce than in the past. Mainly those men who are employed in foreign nations have been increasingly filing for divorce, citing extra marital affairs of their wives and misappropriation of money that sent home.
Women, on the other hand, cite mental torture by their husbands, domestic violence and neglect as the main reasons for divorce, the court details show.
It may be noted that the new Civil Code, which has been in force since April 17, 2018, has simplified the divorce process for men.
As per the new provision, they can go straight to the court and file for divorce. Prior to this, any men wishing to end their marriage had to first complete the prescribed process at the local level before going to the court.
