Bara Armed Police Force SP Balram Pokharel died and Bara Chief District Officer Ganesh Bhattarai was critically injured in a jeep accident at Nijgadh-Pathlaiya road stretch in the district on Saturday night.

The speeding jeep (Ba 1 Jha 1633) hit the trailer of a parked tractor on the roadside close to Pasaha Khola in Jitpur Simara sub-metropolitan city. SP Pokharel died on the spot, while critically injured CDO Bhattarai was flown in a chopper to Kathmandu for further treatment on Sunday.

Bhattarai was rushed to Narayani Hospital in Birgunj after the accident.

Bara police chief SP Sanuram Bhattarai described CDO Bhattarai’s condition as critical.

Driver Jagat Raut and constable Shambhu Gurung suffered minor injuries in the accident. The occupants of the jeep were returning to Kalaiya after taking part in a staff reception.
