Water crisis in Gadhawa Rural Municipality-8 of Dang on the Nepal-India border is so acute that villagers on a daily basis have to walk across to India to fetch water.
Water resources in Gadhawa have dried up.
Sustained and rampant extraction of river products and lack of conservation of water resources have forced Gadhawa villagers to reach Indian Seema Suraksha Bal camps to get drinking water, said Rasib Siddiqi, a local.
The Gadhawa Rural Municipality, earlier known as Koilabas, was a trade gateway for the entire Rapti zone in the days of yore. But of late, this stands as one of the least development villages in the country.
The population of the village is around 2,000.
Though the Dang District Committee some 10 years ago had approved a drinking water project, it is yet to be completed.
Locals, hence, have not option than to walk across the border to the Indian territory to fetch water.
