After receiving information about marijuana smuggling through Kakada, Sarikhet and Nayabasti towards India, a police team had set a trap to nab the smugglers at Nayabasti. However, the smugglers saw the police team and opened fire towards them. No casualties have been reported.
Police said there were some 30-35 smugglers carrying the contraband towards the Indian side. Police has arrested four of them while the others escaped towards the jungle under the darkness of night.
The arrested have been identified as Dipendra Rai, 16, of Manhari-7, Suresh Syangtan, 29, of Raksirang-8, Gopal Bloon, 36, and Krishna Tamang, 18, of Manhari-6. Police also seized 565 kilogram of marijuana and 46 kilogram of hashish left behind by the smugglers.
