NTA closes 21,000 porn websites

More than 21,000 websites offering pornographic content have closed so far following the government banning porn sites, according to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). The government has cracked down on pornographic websites in view of increasing incidents of rape and sexual harassment of women in the country.
The NTA banned smut websites from September 24 following an order by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It banned sharing, distribution and broadcasting pornographic content through any medium. There are over 100 internet service providers operating in Nepal. Nepal’s law mentions pornographic content as illegal.
