Former Minister and senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Prakash Chandra Lohani on Wednesday announced a new party, United Rastriya Prajatantra Party (Nationalist). Revival of Nepal as a Hindu state and constitutional monarchy are the main principle of the party—along the lines of RPP’s agenda.
Lohani had quit the newly reshaped RPP on March 12 saying that the party had started exercising absolutism—limiting party’s power to a limited group of people, disregarding party’s constitution and dilly-dallying in forming committees. He had also accused the RPP leadership of violating the previous agreement to fix ‘plough’ as its election symbol.
The newly-formed party has fixed plough as the election symbol which seemingly was the main issue of contention between RPP chief Kamal Thapa and Lohani. Former co-chair of the RPP-Nepal Keshar Bahadur Bista and Shyam Timilsina, who was in a splinter faction of the RPP-N led by Padma Sundar Lawati, are among the party’s central leaders.
