A pick-up truck swerved off the road and plunged 70 metres at Chhintang-8 in Dhankuta district on Friday night, killing two persons. Six others were injured when the vehicle (Ko 1 Ja 2722), on its way to Bhojpur from Dharan, crashed.
Police identified the deceased as Prithviman Rai, 50, of Ghodetar, Bhojpur, and Sushila Shrestha, 45, of Dharan-1. The injured are receiving treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Police suspected that the vehicle had skidded due to brake failure.
In Dang, a driver died when a pick-up truck met with an accident at Tulsipur-1 on Friday night. The vehicle fell about 100 metres from the road. Driver Prem Dangal, 27, of Pawannagar-2 died in the incident.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Loknath Timilsina, a preliminary probe showed that the driver was drunk.
In Mahottari, a pedestrian identified as Aruna Jha, 40, of Sahodawa, died when a tractor hit her near her house. She had succumbed to injuries during treatment, said police.
In Makwanpur, 27 passengers were injured when a Birgunj-bound passenger bus overturned at Manahari on Saturday morning when a front tyre of the speeding vehicle burst.
