Minister for Law Agni Kharel presented the road map which envisages to complete over two dozen tasks, ranging from formulation of legal provision in line with new constitution to holding elections of federal, state and local parliament before January 2018.
The tenure of the present Legislature-Parliament ends in the third week of January 2018, making it mandatory to put in place a federal set-up before that.
The roadmap approved on Thursday has announced to hold all three elections—local, state assembly and federal parliament—in the next 18 months.
The government has already announced that local body elections will be held by the end this year. According to the roadmap, elections of the local bodies will be held by December 2016, state assembly in April-May 2017 and the federal parliament in December 2017.
The government has also proposed a commission to redraw the federal boundary by mid-August. The commission will submit its report by mid-November.
To hold the elections of the state assembly and federal parliament, the government aims to complete demarcation of electoral constituencies by mid-January 2017.
The plan was tabled to get Legislature-Parliament’s ownership, although it does not need to be endorsed by the House.
