The Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Friday arrested Sandesh Ghimire, 29, and Shree Ram Acharya, 29, of Gorkha for possessing bogus engineering degrees.
With the two arrests on Friday, the number of engineers caught with fake academic credentials in the past four days has reached 10. Ghimire and Acharya had studied in Nepal Engineering College, Bhaktapur, and have produced civil engineers’ certificates. Both of them, according to police, are registered with the Nepal Engineering Council.
Ghimire and Acharya had procured the certificates from a designing firm in Gabahal, Lalitpur, which had also produced counterfeit documents for eight other bogus engineers who have been arrested. The papers were prepared by the firm run by Ankit Khadka, 29, a computer designer, who was caught on Wednesday along with Suvit Khadka, 44, a broker. According to the MPCD, Ankit and Suvit belong to a racket that “produces and sells” fake engineering degrees.
