APF asks for higher status than Nepal Police
The Armed Police Force (APF) has suggested the political leaders that their hierarchical status should be higher than that of Nepal Police.Meeting the leaders of four major parties on Sunday, the APF chief asked the leaders to provide them a status higher than that of police as paramilitary force remains second after army in the international practice.
The APF chief Inspector General of Police Kosh Raj Onta and other senior officials had met CPN-UML chairman KP Oli, UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar. Also the team had met Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang and Chairman of CA's Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC) Baburam Bhattarai.
APF spokesperson DIG Pushpa Ram KC said they also objected to recent suggestions by Nepal Police to omit the word 'police' from APF. The officials had argued that there is no point in changing the name.
