The parliament has endorsed the government’s annual policy and programmes with a majority for the upcoming fiscal year 2015-16 on Sunday.

President Ram Baran Yadav presented the policy and programmes at the parliament on July 8. The discussion sessions recorded differing views (in favour and against) on the policy and programmes. The discussion sessions ran for three days.

With the endorsement of annual policy and programmes, a path has been paved for the government to present the annual budget for next fiscal year.

Discussions on government new policy and programme over

Most of lawmakers taking part in Sunday's deliberations stressed the need of giving special priority to the promotion of energy sector so as to lead the country towards economic progress. Energy along with tourism and agriculture should be focused to materialise the dream of graduating the country to a developing country from a least developed one by 2022, they stressed.

Creation of employment opportunity within the country, an increment in social allowance and preparation of a long-term economic progress targeting women, children, dalits and marginalised community were other focuses of the lawmakers.

Some lawmakers, even from the ruling parties, said the government policy and programme neither could be supported wholeheartedly nor be refused.

Lawmaker Shakti Bahadur Basent demanded that the Prime Minister should withdraw the new policy and programme and rewrite it by incorporating the voices of all.

Ram Kumari Chaudhary, Sita Devi Yadav, Tejulal Chaudhary, Chudamani BK Jungalee, Bidur Sapkota, Ranju Kumari Jha, Sita Giri and Mahendra Yadav were among those lawmakers taking part in today's discussion.

The next meeting of the Legislature–Parliament is scheduled to take place at 17:00 pm later today where Prime Minister Sushil Koirala will respond to queries raised by the lawmakers about the government new policy and programme. (RSS)
