The tenure of current Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma ends on October 9. Sharma, who was appointed to the post of CJ on April 14, 2014, is retiring on account of age limit. He is 65 years old.
The president will endorse the name recommended by the council after the approval from parliamentary hearing special committee.
It will take at least three weeks’ time for his appointment after parliamentary hearing.
The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Monday to make recommendations for other constitutional bodies—Human Rights Commission, Public Service Commission and Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
