Nepal reports 2,448 new Covid-19 cases, two deaths
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,609 and the number of active cases stands at 11,690.Post Report
Nepal on Wednesday reported 2,448 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 838,375.
Similarly, 627 people tested positive in a total of 3,985 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Wednesday, 4,957,288 PCR and 869,213 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 9,051 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported two Covid-19-related fatalities.
The countrywide death toll has now reached 11,609. The number of active cases stands at 11,690 and the rate of infection positivity is 27.04 percent.
According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate, or the number of tests that return positive for every 100 tests, is more than 5 percent, the pandemic is supposed to be beyond control.
According to the ministry, 815,076 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 278 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,538 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 1,168 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 236 in Lalitpur and 134 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 243 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 83 in Province 2, 1,720 in Bagmati, 161 in Gandaki, 146 in Lumbini, 19 in Karnali and 70 in Sudurpaschim.
On Wednesday, 87 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 22—two in Province 1, 16 in Bagmati, two in Gandaki and one each in Karnali and Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Tuesday reported 1,981 new coronavirus cases and one death. Similarly, 1,357 new coronavirus cases and two deaths were reported on Monday and 841 new coronavirus cases and two deaths were reported on Sunday.
