Rescuers retrieve body of man missing in Gorkha landslide

One of the five people missing in a landslide at Gumda in Ward 5 of Dharche Rural Municipality in Gorkha district on Sunday was found dead on Monday.
Rescuers pulled the body of 60-year-old Sulal Kanchha Gurung some 20-25 metres away from the house that was washed away by the mudslide, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kumar Shrestha.
Laxman Gurung, chair of Dharche Rural Municipality, said they are searching for four others still buried under the debris. The Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and locals have searched for the missing persons since early Monday morning.
The landslide triggered by heavy rains swept away an agricultural farm and a house at around 3am on Sunday. The landslide started from the Nansen Community Forest just above the settlement.
According to the District Police Office in Gorkha, farm owner Jit Bahadur Gurung (37), his wife Kanchhi Gurung (35), Ramesh Gurung (33) and tractor driver Ramesh Pariyar are missing in nature’s fury. Two others were injured.
