A woman died after a fire engulfed her hut late Monday.
Hangi Kami, a resident of Khinchok Besi in Dordi Rural Municipality-8, died after her hut caught fire, said Yuva Raj Adhikari, rural municipality chair.
Kami had lit a fire to keep herself warm after the temperature dropped due to rainfall on Monday.
Police believe the pile of firewood kept under the bed caught fire, destroying the hut and killing her.
“Despite efforts from locals and police personnel from the Chiti police post to douse the fire, we could not save her,” Police Inspector Rajan Timilsena said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 9pm.
The charred body found at the incident spot will be sent for post-mortem, Timilsena added.
Although the 92-year-old woman’s grandchildren live in the same village, she was living alone in her hut, Adhikari said.
