Suvash Gurung scored the decisive goal in the second half as Church Boys United overcame Satdobato Youth Club 1-0 to climb to the summit of the Martyrs Memorial A-Division League in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Gurung netted the winner in the 63rd minute sending a rebound from near the penalty spot after his first effort off a pass from Anjan Bista was blocked by the Satdobato defenders.

The win gave league debutants CBU 33 points from 18 matches—two points above second-placed Jawalakhel Youth Club, who threw away a two-goal lead to draw with Manang Marshyangdi Club 2-2 on Sunday.

Satdobato stayed in fifth position with 26 points.

The A-Division title race is evolving to be a three-way battle as the season progresses.

Three Star and Tribhuvan Army Club both failed to close the gap on top after they played a 1-1 draw earlier at the Dasharath Stadium.

Jawalakhel can reclaim the top position if they beat New Road Team on Thursday. Reigning champions have recovered from a slow start and have now waged war against the pace setters as they sit just three points below leaders CBU.

Earlier, Dinesh Henjan scored late in the second half to salvage a point for Army.

Laken Limbu put Three Star in front from the half-way line in the 69th minute. Army’s goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu’s weak distribution from the right edge of the box fell straight into the foot of Limbu near the circle of the centre and the midfielder, having noticed the goalkeeper off the line, quickly launched a spectacular airborne shot that beat a desperate Kuthu to find the net.

But Dinesh Henjan rescued Army in the 85th minute with a close range header off a cross from Sudil Rai.

At the Chyasal Stadium, Moses Gyabaah Twum scored the only goal as Nepal Police Club defeated Armed Police Force Club 1-0 to climb up to 10th position—two points toward safety.
