Nepal will be facing two Associates during the official warm-up matches for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup taking place in India and Sri Lanka next month.
As per the fixtures revealed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, the Rhinos will face the UAE and Canada on February 3 and 5, respectively. Both matches will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Rhinos are currently training in Mumbai, the city where Nepal will play all of their group stage matches of the World Cup. To get acclimatised to the conditions at Wankhede Stadium, Stuart Law’s boys are practising at Barbourne Cricket Stadium, which is less than a kilometre away from Wankhede.
Nepal reached Mumbai a couple of days ago after a week-long stay in Sri Lanka, where they lost a three-match T20 series to Sri Lanka ‘A’ by 2-1. They are scheduled to play two T20s with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President XI on January 29 and 31.
Nepal are in Group C in the World Cup with the likes of England, the West Indies, Italy and Scotland. The UAE and Canada are in Group D alongside New Zealand, South Africa and Afghanistan.
Scotland replaced Bangladesh in Group C, and they revealed their squad on Monday. Owen Dawkins, who joined Scotland as the head coach on December 1 last year, will be travelling to India with Richie Berrington as the skipper.
The other players in the squad are Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Oliver Davidson, Chris Greaves, Zainullah Ihsan, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt and Bradley Wheal.
Similarly, the West Indies also revealed their squad on Monday. Shai Hope is captaining the Caribbean side, which includes Shimron Hetmyer, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales and Romario Shepherd.
The ICC has dubbed the West Indies team a ‘power-packed squad’. “Powered by explosive batting, multiple all-round options as well as pace-bowling resources, the two-time champions will be led by Shai Hope in the upcoming tournament,” the ICC stated.
Hope had missed out on the recent three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Dubai, which the West Indies lost 1-2.
