Match sees rare triple Super Over finish as Lion-Cachet leads Dutch to dramatic victory.
Post Report
The Netherlands edged Nepal in a thrilling encounter that went to three Super Overs after both sides finished tied at 152 runs in the 20-over play during the second match of the Scotland T20 Tri-Series in Glasgow, Scotland, on Monday.
The match had everything—tight bowling, aggressive batting, and high-pressure drama that culminated in a rare triple Super Over. Zach Lion-Cachet starred with the ball to help the Dutch secure a memorable win, taking two wickets without conceding a run in the final Super Over.
Batting first, the Netherlands put up 152 for 7 after being asked to bat. Vikramjit Singh (30), Teja Nidamanuru (35), and a late cameo from Saqib Zulfiqar (25 not out off 12) provided the backbone of their innings. Nepal’s bowlers, led by Sandeep Lamichhane, who took 3 for 18, managed to keep the Dutch batters under pressure throughout. Nandan Yadav also impressed with two wickets.
Nepal’s chase started shakily with Lokesh Bam and Anil Sah falling early. But skipper Rohit Paudel steadied the innings with a brilliant 48 off 35 balls, supported by Kushal Bhurtel’s quick 34. Nepal kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and despite a late surge from Nandan Yadav (12 not out off 4), they finished on 152 for 8, tying the scores.
In the first Super Over, Nepal posted 19 with Bhurtel hammering 18 off 5 balls. However, the Netherlands matched it with ease—Max O’Dowd hitting 12 off just 3 balls, assisted by Levitt’s 6.
The second Super Over saw the Netherlands bat first and score 17, with Scott Edwards hitting a six. Nepal, under pressure, held their nerve as Paudel (7) and Airee (10) levelled the target yet again.
With both teams refusing to back down, the match entered a third Super Over.
This time, Lion-Cachet bowled a remarkable over for the Dutch. He dismissed Paudel off the first ball and removed Rupesh Singh three balls later. Nepal failed to score a single run, crumbling under the pressure. Netherlands then needed just one run to win, and Michael Levitt sealed the result by smashing a six on the very first delivery from Lamichhane.
Lion-Cachet, who also contributed 11 runs in the main innings and took 1 for 22, was named Player of the Match.
Nepal next face hosts Scotland on Tuesday, needing a win to keep their campaign on track.
