Karnali Yaks have set a 102-run target against Sudurpaschim Royals in the 28th match of the Nepal Premier League at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Monday.
Put to bat first after Sudurpaschim elected to field, Karnali’s innings struggled from the start. Openers Babar Hayat and Rit Gautam were dismissed early, with Gautam departing for a duck in the first over. Babar Hayat scored 13 off nine balls but fell in the second over, leaving Karnali reeling at 13 for 2.
Karnali failed to build partnerships despite brief resistance from Zeeshan Maqsood, who top-scored with 30 runs off 35 balls, and William Bosisto, who contributed 16 runs.
Harmeet Singh led Sudurpaschim’s bowling attack with an impressive spell, taking three wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee and Scott Kuggeleijn supported him, claiming two wickets each.
The Karnali lower order collapsed rapidly, losing their last six wickets for just 19 runs. The innings ended in the final ball of the 20th over at 101, with extras contributing eight runs.
If Sudurpaschim chase the target within 13 overs, Karnali will be out of the top four. Otherwise, Karnali will secure a place in the top four, eliminating Kathmandu Gurkhas.
If Karnali defeat Sudurpaschim by 12 runs or more, they will surpass Janakpur to reach the top two.
