Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane on Friday withdrew his name from the upcoming Nepal T20 International Triangular Series, which is scheduled to start in Kathmandu on October 18.
Lamichhane, in a social media post on Friday, said he pulled out of the series to “revitalise myself” and “needed family time”.
“With a heavy heart, I have decided to withdraw my name from the upcoming tournament. I have been going through difficult and challenging times of my life and I realise I need to revitalise myself and need family time. I want to express my gratitude for all the blessings and wishes I have received thus far. Thank you everyone. Until we meet again,” Lamichhane wrote.
Lamichhane is currently facing trial on the charge of raping a minor.
Nepal take on the United Arab Emirates at the Mulpani Cricket Ground to open the Tri-series which also involves Hong Kong.
The final will be held in TU Cricket Ground on Oct 27.
The Tri-series will serve as the warm-up match for all three teams’ preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier—part of the qualification process for the 2024 Men’s World Cup. The Asia Qualifier will take place in Kathmandu from October 30.
Nepal are in Group A alongside Oman, Malaysia and Singapore. Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong are in Group B.
The two finalists will qualify for the 20-team 2024 tournament.
The UAE had defeated Nepal in the Global Qualifier A semi-final in February 2022 to qualify for the last edition of the World Cup.
